Fall in Michigan brings with it a variety of things — the trees changing colors, fresh leaves to crunch on the ground, warm drinks at the local cider mill, and a chance to take some gorgeous photos for your social media account. Luckily, lots of places offer pet-friendly options for a fall photo-op, so you can include your dog (or calm cat!) in the fun. Here are some great places to take some photos this fall.
Plymouth Township Park – Plymouth

Where: 46640 W Ann Arbor Trail, Plymouth, MI
Website: Plymouth Township Park
Plymouth recently changed the rules in 2024 to allow leashed dogs (and calm cats in strollers or carriers) at all public parks in the city and township. Plymouth Township Park offers several acres of hiking, smooth rolling hills, and several pavilions where you can take in the fall scenery, snap a few photos, and enjoy a romp with your dog, without having to drive too far out of town. Dogs need to be on leash at all times, and should be up to date on their city licensing if local to the area.
Maybury State Park – Northville

Where: 49601 Eight Mile Road Northville, MI
Website: Maybury State Park
Did you know dogs are welcome at all Michigan state parks and campgrounds? Maybury State Park in Northville offers picturesque trails, nature, and scenery all without having to leave the metro. With over 1,000 acres of forest and wildflower fields, you’re sure to find the right spot for that perfect fall photo. This park also allows horses, so if you have an equine friend you’re wanting to take photos with, this is the place! There is an entrance fee of $11 to get into the park, and dogs must remain on a 6-foot leash at all times.
Detroit Riverwalk – Detroit

Where: Downtown along the river, Detroit, MI

If you’re looking for something different from changing trees and falling leaves, consider the Detroit Riverwalk. This stretch of businesses and parks along the Detroit River offer exciting views of the riverfront for a fresh backdrop for you and your pup. Plus, you can stop in one of the many downtown restaurants for a bite to eat after! The riverfront allows well-behaved dogs on leash, however, they ask that you bring your own pet waste bags and are mindful of others enjoying the riverfront.
Paint Creek Cider Mill – Rochester

Where: 4480 Orion Road, Rochester, MI
Website: Paint Creek Cider Mill
There’s a reason cider mills are one of the top picks for amazing Instagram photos! Cider mills offer a variety of fun activities, including hay rides, corn mazes, pumpkin patches, and a whole lot more, making them ideal to snap a few photos at. While dogs aren’t allowed inside the restaurant areas for food safety reasons, they can be brought onto the porch for photos and to enjoy a snack with you as long as they’re kept on-leash. Plus, Paint Creek offers some unique offerings for people to try — including their apple bacon grilled cheese. While you’re in the area, you can also stop at the nearby Goodison Cider Mill that welcomes dogs on the premises.
With fall in full swing, now is the perfect time to get out and enjoy nature with your four-legged friends. Be sure to share your favorite places to take fall photos (or the photo you’ve taken) in the comments below!
