A Visit to Three Dog Bakery in Plymouth

Location: 550 Forest Ave STE 7, Plymouth, MI (Also located in the Metro at 17330 Hall Rd #199A, Clinton Township, MI)

Website: Three Dog Bakery

Rating: 5 out of 5.

My Review:

Three Dog Bakery is a cute storefront tucked away on one of Plymouth’s downtown side streets. Just off the main hub of Kellogg Park, Forest Avenue is home to quite a few of my favorite shops, including this one. While in Plymouth for their Downtown Day and scarecrow walk, I decided to stop in again.

A human skeleton attempts to walk several dog skeletons.
One of my favorite “scarecrows” on the walk!

I’ve been to Three Dog Bakery a few times previously, so I was familiar with their products and layout, however, I didn’t know they were a chain local to the Midwest! Three Dog started out in 1989 in Missouri, and has since branched out from there. The Detroit Metro has two locations, one in Plymouth and one in Clinton Township, so it’s relatively easy to get to one or the other depending on where you’re located.

Three Dog Bakery offers a large variety of options at its Plymouth store including pre-packaged treats in their own brand, doggie clothing, regular branded treats and food, a canine cookie bar to make your own combinations, a rawhide and chew bar, and several refrigerated cabinets that offer a variety of fresh-baked specialty treats. In addition, the Plymouth location offers custom catering with dog cakes and large orders of dog cupcakes you can purchase.

Some of the prepackaged options available.
The variety of people-food lookalikes are tempting!

I really like the ideas they’ve gone with on their pre-packaged food items. It’s an entire line of cookies made to look like “people” food, including “chocolate” chip cookies, sandwich cookies, fig cookies, pretzels, and more. I was browsing with my best friend, who was hesitant to purchase any — only because she was worried she’d accidentally eat a few herself!

For Libby, I went with a behind the counter treat, the giant Sundae, as she goes nuts for them and I enjoy pampering her in her old age. The counter items are great, as they are separated by treat type and category, such as peanut butter and sensitive stomach options. Each of the treats also mentions what ingredients they contain, as well as which ones are grain or wheat-free (great for me, the human, handling them with Celiac disease). I meant to get a photo of Libby chomping on it, but she gobbled her bite down so quickly I didn’t have time to blink! I think that means she approves.

The giant sundae pupcake
This thing was giant! Libby got it in several smaller bites.

My friend went for two smaller peanut butter sandwich cookie treats dipped in carob and yogurt for her two dogs. She reported back that both were “pup approved” with Teddy gobbling his down in seconds, and Pinot carrying hers around like a treasured prize before munching it.

Overall, Three Dog Bakery is a great option if you’re looking for something special to get your pup, be it for a birthday, holiday, or just because. Libby has so far liked every one of the treats I’ve gotten her there, and the variety of options, including those for dogs with food allergies, means you’ll be able to find something your pup will like.
